What is a PDC?

A Permaculture Design Course (PDC) is a 72-hour program that teaches the principles and application of permaculture, guides students to create their own final design project, and results in a certification that is growing in global recognition and application throughout many professions and communities.

This PDC will include a standard core curriculum put forth by The Permaculture Institute of North America (PINA) and will be adapted to the needs and conditions of the densely populated temperate Northeastern U.S.

Lead facilitator Robyn Mello has 10 years of experience as a permaculture designer and educator.

Robyn, in collaboration with PermaJam - Regenerative Culture, will be bringing together a whole slew of guest facilitators to teach a wide range of topics. Some of our guest teachers are:

- Monica Ibacache of Beyond Organic Design and President of Permaculture Institute of North America

- Kathy Puffer of Hudson Valley Vertical Farms, Inc.

- Nate Kleinman of Experimental Farm Network

- Gil Lopez of Smiling Hogshead Ranch

- Claudio Altesor and Diego Alcantara of Back To-nature Organic Edible Landscapes and Design Installations

FULL CURRICULUM AND GUEST TEACHER DETAILS COMING SOON!

What is permaculture?

Permaculture design is a creative process based on whole-systems thinking informed by ethics and design principles. It guides us to learn from patterns and relationships found in nature, and it can be applied to all aspects of physical and social life, from gardens and farms, to families and communities, to energy systems and home renovations, to corporate green teams and nonprofit management. You name it, and permaculture can inform its ethical design.

Cool! So what sets this PDC apart from others?

The PermaJam community began in 2015 as a music festival and has since been revisioned to focus more on permanent designs, installations, and celebratory and educational gatherings of people interested in digging deeper into regenerative lifestyles.

- This course will be taught on location within Blossom Dell Sanctuary, a large wooded property that has been opened up to and stewarded by the PermaJam community since early 2018.

- It will feel like a 10-day PDC SUMMER CAMP, with 8 hours of structured curriculum, 3 meals, and lots of optional activities each day and night, such as yoga, meditation, sweat lodges, medicine-making, and more.

- Unless a student comes in with a personal design project goal in mind, the final design projects envisioned and presented by students in this course will be applied toward the vision of designing Blossom Dell Sanctuary as a regenerative, productive, and nourishing landscape for all human and nonhuman inhabitants.

How much does the course cost?

This course fee is $1200. HOWEVER, we are designing in multiple opportunities for quarter-scholarships, half-scholarships, and actively seeking financial support to bring individual costs down while still providing fair compensation for all administrators, guest facilitators, land stewards, kitchen staff, and ensuring there are nourishing meals and amenities throughout the duration of the course.

We would like to operate with utmost financial transparency and work towards making this course as inclusive and achievable to all interested people as possible. IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, PLEASE REACH OUT TO US, AND CONSIDER TAPPING YOUR SOCIAL NETWORKS TO FUNDRAISE IN LIEU OF OTHER HOLIDAY GIFTS. More fundraising details TBA.
